Rapid Reaction Force

The Rapid Reaction Force is a special operations organization, intended to provide Marine capabilities in smaller numbers than battalion strength would allow. The concept is wrapped around the idea of a cohesive, well-trained, 12-Marine team (Rapid Reaction Team) that are deployed independently to provide military infantry options when an incident does not require or allow for the presence of a MeSON team. This may involve law enforcement boardings of suspect ships, but also include anything from deterrence presence, hostage rescue or hostile extractions. Usually, the sector command ship will have a team deployed on-board whenever the ship is underway, with the remaining company (6 other teams) staying behind at the sector headquarters in an on-call status. In certain hot areas, Star Fleet may dedicate a starship (such as frigates, destroyers and light cruisers) to host and support a Rapid Reaction Company, providing a quick-response Marine force.

The RRF is commanded by a Brigadier General, back on Earth. He does not have an executive officer.

The Rapid Reaction Force (Echelon III) is broken down into the following hierarchy:

• Rapid Reaction Company (Echelon IV): an RRC is comprised of 7 RRTs (84 Marines) and is usually the only company within a sector, though there is no set restriction. They are commanded by Majors.
  • Rapid Reaction Team (Echelon V): an RRT is comprised of 12 Marines, trained to support and operate cohesively; they are led by a 1st Lieutenant.

The commander of the Rapid Reaction Force is a named NPC (while all subordinate officers are unnamed).
