4.6 Backup SIF

Most ships employ at least one backup SIF generator system. The option to purchase a full-scale
SIF as a backup is available, but most backup half-scale SIFs last only for 12 hours at the most and cost ½ the price of the original. These cheaper SIFs have only half the strength and cannot be strengthened. They are listed as ‘half-strength.’
