Cait (or Regulus V) is the second planet (of twelve) in the 15 Lyncis system, the homeworld of the Caitian species.[1] It orbits an F class white star.[2] The asteroid belt that lies between the fifth and sixth planets of the Caitian system is an abundant source of ores and valuable minerals, not the least of which is dilithium. Orbital refining platforms within the belt provide a large percentage of the dilithium crystals used in that area of Federation space.[1]

History
Cait (or Ferasa) is believed to be an ancient, forgotten colony of the Kzintis, established long enough ago to have allowed species differentiation.[1][3]
At the time of first contact with the UFP in 2249, the Caitians had already established relations with the Orions and Ferengi. Within a few years, such good relations existed between the cultures that they entered the United Federation of Planets.[3]
In 2298, the Tholian Assembly rescheduled a diplomatic meeting with the Federation to the system.[2]

Background
- Four other planets in the Federation have Caitian populations: Havelind, Hochlor IV, Macadarna, and Narval. By 2363, there was a Caitian colony on Kirisha, which led a brief war with the Regnancy of the Carnelian Throne.[3]
