To build a sector requires more effort than just applying a template and filling in the standard data fields.
Step 1: Sector Coordinates
- Open the Sector Coordinates spreadsheet.
- Copy the fourth tab, Sector Template, into the proper placement within the other sector tabs, and name it accordingly.
- Roll a number within the range 20-50. This represents the number of star systems or other items within the sector.
- Add that number of rows under the System Name column, to include to the Distance column on the right.
- Identify which of the axis (represented by the three Origin- columns) are positive and which are negative (for that particular sector).
- Identify any systems or other items that should be included from other sources, such as from Star Charts. Add these in to the System Name columns by their official names, and provide coordinates to the appropriate columns.
- For the remaining rows, roll 1d20 for each of the three columns, for each sector item. (No half numbers will be used, from this point on.) Add (or subtract) the number from the base numbers associated with that sector. Be sure to record the negative sign where appropriate.
- For all generated locations, use the System Generator spreadsheet (or the Surveys rules) to determine in broad terms what is present at those location coordinates. Record under System Name as the item identifier code (G, MM, NMD, etc.).
- Using the System Naming Conventions (specifically System Designation), properly designate each item with it's location. Ex: GM-017-0704
- Adapt the present Mini Map (located below the sector locations, to indicate the present sector at the center of a 27-sector cube. Identify the remaining sectors on the map.
Step 2: Sector page
- Create a new page, named "Sector" and the full designation. Ex: Sector 15-12-976-88
- If it already has a proper name, redirect it to that page.
- Cut & paste the following code onto the page:
{{Sidebar sector
| SectorImage= Sector ##-##-###-## banner.png
| Name= Sector ###-##
| Number= ''TBD''
| Designation= ##-##-###-##
| Systems= ''TBD''

- For the infobox code:
- SectorImage= : the associated graphic for the sector is placed here; the preset Word file can be found here. Note: Screencap the logo and paste it onto a blank tile of the appropriate dimensions; do not attempt to create it in Paint.Net.
- Name= : Add the common name, if assigned. If none assigned, use the Sector Number in place of the name.
- Number= : If the Sector Number is not used in place of an unassigned name, add it to this field.
- Designation= : The galactic designation (e.g., 15-02-076-12) is placed here.
- Systems= : The number of star systems, including remnants but excluding unusual items or unidentified interstellar phenomenon (such as black holes or nebulae), is placed here.
- Affiliations= : List the wikilinked affiliations, if any, here. Otherwise, "unaligned."
- Capital= : If the sector has any designated capital systems or worlds, indicate them here (in wikilinks).
- Quadrant= : Indicate which of the four quadrants the sector is located.
- For the Sector chart thumbnail, change both sets of pound (#) symbols to match the sector number.
- For the article template:
- Systems: Create a line item for every star system, placing just the page name inside the first column's wikilinks. This will serve as a checklist for page creation.
- Extrasolar Locations: Generally left blank at time of sector page creation, this tracks all known items at locations outside a star system. These include unusual objects, interstellar phenomena, manufactured facilities, or otherwise important locations that do not exist in the Systems section. If something exists within a star system, it will not be indicated on the sector page.
- Sector Files: Files that constitute data records for the sector are accessed and updated through this link.
- Sector#: Change the pound (#) sign to the number (usually 0) or first letter of the sector. The template will add the sector to that category page.
Step 3: Location Pages and Sector Chart
- Using the redlinks created on the sector page, create articles that describe -in bare, pre-survey terms- what is located at that position.
- Help:Solar Systems has plenty of templates for systems and other phenomena that have already been created; copy the template over to the new page and add the required data.
- If a template does not already exist, find a template that is similar (single star system, binary system, etc.) and first create a generic template for that system (or phenomenon).
- Starfields (of more than one star) are made by overlaying images of single stars onto the space background.
- The primary star assumes the top left position and is sized to 15%.
- The second star is sized to 8% and placed to the right of the primary.
- When there are 3 or more stars, stars are placed in a counter-clockwise pattern, with the third star slightly more distant than the first pair and sized at 11%. A fourth star would be closer to the third and sized at 8%.
- The cloning tool (20% recommended) is used to remove the resident "glow" from around each star, to create a near-seamless background (when viewed at standard 100% size).
- When saved, create a link to it on the Help:Solar Systems page. Then create the targeted system.
- As the page is completed (and saved), confirm there are no redlinks on the page that should be properly identified (to include the categories found at the bottom of the page).
- Create a sector chart, using a screen capture from Starship Tracker. Load the image of the sector chart on the sector page.
