The intent of this table is to quickly generate a mission for a starship other than just patrolling. This applies to vessels that are not mission-specific (such as medical, research, tugs), but are capable of performing these roles in some respect.

d1000

  • 001-300 Exploration: the effort to discover new objects, cultures and phenomenon for the purpose of reporting their existences.
  • Defense
    • 301-310 Recon: open (but not necessarily overt) intent to discern location of another force's ships & assets
    • 311-320 Espionage: covert attempt to discern the enemy's location, ships, assets, tactics, technology, etc, often in a manner that violates treaty or expectations
    • Patrolling
      • 321-330 Border Patrols: sweep alongside a demilitarized zone or other treaty area to ensure the zone is not being breached
      • 331-360 Installation Patrols: a form of reconnaissance and guarding of a set installation (such as a Starbase) to ensure the area around it is clear of threats
      • 361-400 System Patrols: a form of reconnaissance and guarding of a system to ensure it is clear of threats (either as a preventative measure, such as an important system or within a system that events/intel indicate is threatened.
    • 401-450 Exercises/Wargames: multi-unit exercise to practice starship combat tactics
  • Diplomacy
    • 451-465 First (Awareness) Contact: first attempt to contact a space-faring culture (other than newly FTL-capable) detected by non-Starfleet means
    • 466-480 First (FTL) Contact: first (formal) diplomatic contact with a culture that has just achieved FTL capability
    • 481-495 Economic/Trade negotiations: a visit (either domestic or foreign) to discuss economic/trade agreements
    • 496-510 Policy negotiations: a visit (usually foreign) to discuss treaty agreements (either new or updated)
    • 511-535 Port visits: a friendly show-the-flag visit to a member (or allied) world
    • 536-550 Arbitration: a visit to a (possibly neutral) location in order to arbitrate a disagreement
  • Safety
    • 551-563 Humanitarian Assistance: single- or multi-ship response to an attack or natural disaster, providing medical, engineering, survival and recovery support.
    • 564-576 Search & Rescue: as it indicates, the attempt to locate and recover someone(s) missing, either in space or planetside
    • 577-588 Salvage: the recovery of a previously missing/damaged/abandoned vessel
    • 589-594 Navigation Lane Patrols: a patrol of an established (or common) navigation lane for the purpose of ensuring the safety or assistance of vessels traveling along it
    • 595-597 Navigation Aids: establishing buoys and other equipment to establish a navigation lane
    • 598-600 Navigation Maintenance: the repair or correction of devices (buoys, etc.) along an established navigation lane
  • Law Enforcement
    • 601-610 Search & Seizure: the targeted or random boarding of vessels within Federation space with the intent of disrupting smuggling of hostiles or illegal items
    • 611-620 Anti-terrorism: an intel-driven mission to disrupt terrorism within a selected region or system
    • 621-630 Customs: the effort to investigate vessels entering Federation space to ensure conformity with regulations regarding vessels, equipment and immigration
  • Science: if 'Support' is chosen, consider using the following sciences as a reason for the visit (also see: Wikipedia: Sciences portal)
    • 631-670 Science Support: providing a platform for a guest science team
