This is a work in progress

Marines

Starfleet, has from the very beginning, employed a infantry force similar to the Marines of the bluewater navies. Prior to the establishment of the UFP, the Military Assault Command Organization (MACO) had formed from the remnants of the greater armies of United Earth and was used primarily as peacekeepers, at relatively heavily reduced numbers. Following the creation of the UFP Starfleet in 2161, the MACOs were broken away from the similar expeditionary forces of other members to form Starfleet Security, primarily concerned with providing installation and starship protection. The remaining ground forces were re-formed as the Starfleet Ground Attack Marines (SGAM). On the 100th anniversary of the Federation and the SGAM, the force formally became known as the Starfleet Marine Corps (SMC).

The SMC is homebased on member planets in regimental size. They usually deploy by battalions to trouble spots, though in intense conflicts or times of war they'll deploy as regiments. For major assaults or offensives, they will form up into their component divisions. Typical organizations are as below:

Division
comprised of 3 regiments (15,000 Marines), they are often situated within a major sector during peace. Numbered as divisions, Earth hosts 1st Division and Andor hosts 2nd Division. Starfleet troop transports generally operate within easy reach of the planets to which a division's regiments are assigned.
Regiment
made up of 5 battalions (5,000 Marines), regiments are usually homebased on the major member planets within a sector. Regiments are made up of 3 infantry battalions, 1 armored battalion and 1 support (artillery, shielding, medical) battalion. They are usually numbered with three digits (ex: 100th Regiment (1st Division), 243rd Regiment (7th Division)).
Battalion
manned my almost exactly 1,000 Marines, a battalion is based on the same planet as its parent regiment, though usually within their own battalion camp. Most battalions are comprised of infantry, but one of each battalion will have the latest armored vehicles while another will have support forces, such as artillery, shielding platoons and medical personnel.

Special Forces

Starfleet employs several different combat specialist forces, the best known being the MeSONs (Military Special OperatioNS), commandos used to covertly insert and fight unconventional small-scale battles. The MESONS are often attached to Marine regiments, command ships and some starbases.

Diplomatic Protection Groups (DPG) are special MESON units assigned to command ships and diplomatic parties to provide discrete, personal protection.

Starfleet Corps of Engineers

Initially (and informally) formed in 2156, the SCE was responsible for the construction of Starbase 1. Following its completion, the cohesive unit was employed to build other projects of special interest to Starfleet, eventually becoming a large force unto themselves. They are often deployed in battalion sizes of 600 'Bees', but are organized into regiments, five battalions each. They can also be found on select starbases and they also maintain their own (outdated) starship fleet (comprised of ships that would otherwise be decommissioned) for their 'legion' of rapid-reaction troubleshooters.
