Texas, like Australia, took the conclusion of World War III as an opportunity to become independent, though for the Lone Star state, that independence was not from the world, but from the United States. With a number of NASA facilities located within their borders, the nation also seized the opportunity to become one of the few space-faring organizations on Earth. While initially resistant to the remaining federal government of its parent country, once it realized its own sovereignty was not threatened and that the US sought only to recover from the war as best it could, Texas began providing assets to achieve those means (starting in 2065). That is when NASA began flying again, under both flags.
In 2069, along with the US, Texas signed the United Earth Defense Pact, always acting as a stalwart ally of both. It retained its national identity, even after signing the Traité d'Unification in 2130.
