5.15 Cargo Holds

(Cost: no minimum) (Average of 1 x Size)

Starships need to carry a lot of equipment and other objects in addition to consumables. Large objects, or objects stored in bulk, are kept in a ship’s cargo holds. Instead of assigning SUs directly to the size, ascertain how much cargo area is needed or apply remaining mass to cargo, when the design is almost completed.

SFC Technology Index

Cargo Holds represent more of a storage requirement than a technological status and, as such, have no index. However, the costs associated with external Cargo Containers is provided here:

  • Type DY: 0.56 RP
  • Type II: 27.78 RP
  • Type III: 41.67 RP
  • Type IV: 83.33 RP
  • Type V: 194.44 RP
  • Type VI: 250 RP
  • Type W-75t and A-75t: 416.67 RP
  • Type W-100t and A-100t: 555.56 RP

Note: these relatively empty containers are presumed to cost only 1/8th the amount of an equivalently-sized but higher-tech other item.
