5.15 Cargo Holds
Cost: (flexible) minimum of 1 SU per Size
Power Requirement: none
Average: 1 x Size
Starships need to carry a lot of equipment and other objects in addition to consumables. Large objects, or objects stored in bulk, are kept in a ship’s cargo holds. Instead of assigning SUs directly to the size, ascertain how much cargo area is needed or apply remaining mass to cargo, when the design is almost completed. The designer of a ship may organize the cargo bays as he sees fit; some prefer a small number of large holds; others a large number of smaller holds scattered throughout a ship.
SFC Technology Index
Cargo Holds represent more of a storage requirement than a technological status and, as such, have no index.
However, external Cargo Containers are produced by a variety of manufacturers and have their own index.
