3.2 Construction Categories

Each of the following systems and attributes fall into one of seven categories: Hull (4.0), Personnel Systems (5.0), Propulsion Systems (6.0), Power Systems (7.0), Operations Systems (8.0), Tactical Systems (9.0) and Auxiliary Spacecraft Systems (10.0).

Note: in some cases, equipment may become available for use in a prototype, or even production models, years before indicated in the below tables. For every decade (or portion of) that a certain type of equipment is used early, the SU requirement is increased by 20%. Therefore, a phaser VIII installed on the USS Reliant in 2270 would be introduced 14 years "early", and would therefore be 40% larger than that formally introduced "on time". (This holds true for non-ship-based equipment, since most equipment is usually seen at planetary facilities first and in much larger examples before being miniaturized for shipboard use.)
