Star Fleet Communications is a rather vital part of Star Fleet, as it is tasked with providing the secure, dependable and fast lines of command and control needed to ensure both the defense of the Federation and the safety of the individual ships and supporting commands. While the various planet-based arrays and spatial stations may fall under the administration of other officers of Support Operations, it is the operation of those assets and their security (in the cryptological sense) that is the mission of this office.
