Background: Delta Dynamics
The Apex was a major variant of the DY-100 series, adding on only a meager 80 tons to support early Venusian and Martian exploration (and colonization of Mars) missions by Khan Singh's Great Khanate, in association with the Dinyan-Yoyodyne Conglomerate. The first two ships completed and launched conducted test runs to Luna in preparation for the longer distance runs to Venus and Mars, until 1993 when the release of the DY-B2 booster made those missions possible.
While manned landings on Venus were successfully conducted starting in 1994, it was on Mars, in 1993, that man first touched a non-satellite planet. By early 1995, the Khanate was attempting to establish a long-term base there, but this resulted in complete mission failure upon the fall of that state and the continued prosecution (legal and militarily) of its personnel. None of the 12 ships were recovered: the 3 in orbit of Earth attempted to avoid capture, but only one was successful. Damage incurred during its escape prevented it from shedding delta-v on it's Martian approach, resulting in its complete destruction when it impacted the surface. Four were lost in-transit between Earth and their respective destination planets, while the remaining five (two in Venusian and three in Martian orbits) appeared to have attempted to maintain integrity well past the crafts' ability to support human life. These hulls were also lost on de-orbiting, the last one positively detected by long-range telescopes in 2008.

Notes
- In order to not have the Columbus series craft as too fast (arriving at destinations pre-First Contact), all max speeds have been drastically reduced, (except for the DY-50).
