The DY-100 class transports heralded the modern age, by introducing Earth's first interplanetary vessels. While the wouldn't immediately usher in an age of prosperity, as there would be significant technological setbacks before the planet could truly be categorized as 'united', it did prove to the growing species that the wealth of the solar system was within reach. Turbulent times would follow as a result.
The DY-110 class mission spacecraft were reserved for use by the Auguments, primarily though the Dinyan-Yoyodyne Conglomerate and other shell companies. Their primary purpose was to expand the Augments' reach through the rolar system, providing them priority access to resources found on other planetary bodies. As such, they were equipped with specialized planetary science labs and manned by subject matter experts. Landers were also used, designed to haul colony-development equipment and supplies down to a planetary surface and return to the ship's keel-mounted bay over multiple trips. These landers were designed for the body they were intended to settle on, primarily Mars and Venus (though asteroidal and Mercurian settlements were planned). The DY-110s cargo pods were standard to the DY series, so they could conceivably haul ore or other resources back to Earth.

The ship worked primarily as the transport it was intended to be, even when the technology to produce it was re-discovered in the 2020s. Able to grapple to asteroids and even settle on low-mass moons, it was a successful platform for top-level mining of those bodies. The base model assumed the client states (initially China, India, South Korea and the United States) would want the minimal scientific gear to explore the immediate near-space installed and so almost 70 tons of such equipment was provided. Cargo pods capable of holding 100 tons of material were carried along the spine and the vessel also provided 68 tons internally, for the crew's easy access. The pods themselves were generally bulk storage, but variants included rigid storage extravehicular activity, such as maneuvering packs and even confined open-space maneuvering pods for single operators.
What really stood the Apex class (as they were referred by the Augments) apart from the commercial DY transports was the armament. A submersible-esque missile tube was mounted within the bow, with 10 radar-guided missiles in the armory. For self-protection, a space-enabled CIWS was installed just aft the sailing tower with a full rear arc of coverage. These weapons were not advertised, but photo analysis (and not a little HUMINT, no doubt) by the US led to public questions. Dinyan-Yoyodyne's response was the tubes were intended to protect the craft (or its construction projects) from rogue asteroids, while the CIWS could be used against smaller debris that might result. Still, concerns were raised about the weaponization of space.

The DY-100 vessels were never (knowingly) armed by the Dinyan-Yoyodyne Conglomerate, nor the client states, though they were fired upon by frantic members of the Great Khanate attempting escape from human retribution.

The DY-110's cargo pods were standard to the DY series, so they could conceivably haul ore or other resources back to Earth.
