8.21 Security Systems

Power Requirement: 4 Power per brig in use per round
Security systems and procedures help a starship protect itself from external and internal threats. To simulate the level of security on board Star Fleet vessels, each ship has a Security rating. The accompanying table describes what each rating indicates and its SU cost.
Brigs: The number of individual brigs the ship has. Each brig is sealed off by a Level 10 force field and a pattern scrambler to prevent transporters from beaming the prisoner away.
Romulan: Romulan military vessels almost always have Security ratings of at least 4. This reflects not only the high level of general watchfulness on a Romulan ship, but the presence of political officers in the crew. Political officers monitor the crew for compliance with official Romulan political and cultural doctrines and laws, reporting anyone whose belief in D’era seems less than devout to the appropriate authorities. The higher a ship’s Security rating, the more political officers it has, and the more skilled they are at their jobs.
