Star Fleet Engineering
(Redirected from Starfleet Engineering)
Star Fleet Engineering is a rather large office within one of the largest components of Star Fleet. Essentially, every aspect of Star Fleet construction, starting with design to actual assembly, is comprised within this office, and also includes weapons development and testing. Due to the importance of each of these divisions, they are not led by commodores, but rear admirals, who report directly to the commanding officer of Star Fleet Engineering, also a Rear Admiral.

- Advanced Starship Design Bureau: ASDB is responsible for either executing the call for starship designs from independent companies or developing the starships that Star Fleet needs (or will need) itself. Some of the Federation's top engineering minds seek to work at the Bureau, as their designs -if put to construction- could conceivably outlast themselves. Once a design is accepted, ASDB works closely with the engineers of their sister division, Starship Construction, to build the prototype model. From that test model comes all of the production line ships for the sought-after class. ASDB is commanded by a Rear Admiral.
- Corps of Engineers: The COE has a long and full history of building all planet- and planetoid-based facilities in use by not only Star Fleet, but also many of those in use by the Federation. Afterwards, maintenance and mechanical management is also handled by the Corps' personnel. It is also one of the most fluid echelons in Star Fleet, as engineers will often flow in and out of the one of the division's bureaus, seeking either a unique engineering experience, a break from starship duty or both. The COE is commanded by a Rear Admiral.
- Bureau of Construction: This bureau is tasked with building all facilities ordered by Star Fleet or as the Federation requires (certain colonies, crisis management locations, etc.). The bureau is founded along the lines of the historical Seabees of the US Navy on Earth, operating primarily in battalions of 600 "'bees" (and organized into regiments of 3 battalions), but may deploy into company or smaller sizes. Each regimental commanding officer is a Captain and reports to the Corps' rear admiral, the honorary "King Bee".
- Bureau of Facilities: This bureau provides all of the engineers needed to maintain facilities for the operational and support commands. It is commanded by a Captain.
- Starship Contingent Teams: These specialist teams were founded to provide rapid response to engineering problems that occur far from Federation facilities. They are based and supported on dedicated starships, usually those of frigate or destroyers classes and often older ones. The teams are commanded by a Commander.
- Large Orbital Construction: The LOC is the Corp's organization tasked with building stations and other large spatial structures. While they do have a few Very Large Drydocks to assist in on-site construction, most of their assets consist of smaller drydocks similar to those used for starship construction and are often mobile, as stations are often assembled via modular processes (towed from their original construction sources). LOC is commanded by a Captain.
- Tactical: Often referred to as Star Fleet Tactical, this shop of theory and engineering dreams up, designs and develops all offensive and defensive weapons systems employed by Star Fleet and analyzes those it encounters from threat or otherwise foreign states. The development doesn't stop; further technological improvements are always being sought and changes, though incremental, prove to increase Star Fleet's capabilities.
- Starship Construction: This division is responsible for either directly building the ships that make up the fleet or providing the oversight, when done by contracted entities. It owns most of Star Fleet's drydocks, both static and mobile and also those maintenance arrays that keep the ships strong and functional over decades of service.
- Star Fleet Museum: While a private organization, it cannot be denied that the Museum has extremely close ties to Star Fleet. Ships that are decommissioned and intended for display at the museum are not actually struck from the Star Fleet Register; instead, they are semi-permanently loaned following a de-equipping process or mothballing (if there's any potential intention to operate the vessel again). While Star Fleet Resource's Office of Disposal is charged with preparing the donated vessel, it is formally transferred to the Starship Construction division, who then loan it to the museum.
