Warp coil
An integral part of a starship’s warp drive, warp coils are mounted in sequential order within the nacelle. When powered by plasma generated by the warp coil, a subspace displacement field is generated, lowering the relative mass of every object within the “bubble” and allowing faster-than-light travel. Modern warp coils are typically composed of cast verterium cortenide surrounding a core of densified tungsten-cobalt-magnesium.
