Heylo All (Medron Pryde)

Postby Medron Pryde » Wed Aug 13, 2003 12:20 am

I'm Medron Pryde. It's not my real name but has been my online name since I first joined The Dropship and DropShipCommand around five years ago. I was a member of the Warriors of the Dropship, a semi-comedic/semi-serious group of people on The Dropship during the heighth of its glory days. It became a part of the SteelCommand set of websites, along with my own P.R.I. and we had fun.

MacAttack wrote some fun stories about the actions of the Warriors, and we Warriors wrote one as well. We had fun until The Dropship was finally shut down by the other SteelCommand Admins when they decided to move over to CAV after FASA did the belly up dance.

Me, I stayed with BTech and continue to have fun with the universe, even if I don't agree with everything the writers have done. Anyways, P.R.I. is my main website, over 100 megabytes of programs and files dedicated to helping people play BattleTech. As time goes on, I'm bringing it in some ways close to the Pryde Rock faction I've been working on for litterally as long as I've been in Battletech, since the 3052 era of the early 90s.

For those of you wondering about my name, Medron Pryde was the first character I ever played in Mechwarrior Second Edition. He is a member of the large Pryde family who live in the Marik Commonality, mostly centered on Marik and Atreus. The Prydes have long been known as staunch supporters of the Captain-General and have some influence in matters. Medron himself chose to leave the League after the current Captain-General (Thomas Marik) attacked the Federated Commonwealth and helped to destroy the best hope the Inner Sphere had of ending the Clan threat once and for all.

The Prydes DON'T like the Clans. They REALLY don't like them. The Pryde that fled with Kerensky rather then stay and defend those who needed help is roundly considered a traitor to the Pryde family, right along with the rest of the Star League army that fled. And the Clans are the spawn of traitors that have taken the Pryde name and turned it into a bloody rag to be fought over like dogs fight in the street over hot dogs rolling in the mud. They don't like the Clans. The Wolves-In-Exile are barely tolerable. The Jade Falcons? They deserve death. Pure and simple.

And that's my character....;)

Me, I'm from Rochester, Minnesota in the good ol' US of A, where I've lived since 1992 after leaving Kansas. I was originally born in Fergus Falls Minnesota but ended up spending my formative years in Kansas, the buckle of the bible belt where you can see church advertisements in the public schools. Where the Catholic church holds religion classes before school starts and the school THEY own is the one everybody wants their kids to go to because its the best in town.

And one of the reasons I love BattleTech so much is because it is one of the few roleplaying universes out there without any magic. Its just good clean fun...until you blow off the other guy's head with a gauss rifle...then its just fun...

I'm 50% scandanavian (Norwegian, Swedish, and Danish), add in a touch of British, Irish, and Scottish, not to mention some German and Austrian/Yugoslavian, and I can fight World War One all on my own...:D But it is the Norwegian blood I most associate myself with despite my Austrian/Yugoslovian name. I'm blonde haired, blue eyed, and built like a brick, even though this particular brick has a spare tire...

Anyways, I love to write stories and tend to be talking to people about writing stories when I'm not actively writing stories at any one time. Or reading books which has been difficult to do of late because of a recent REALLY big push of writing stories. I used to love to draw, until my drawings started turning into stories and then I just started writing and stopped drawing. I'm not joking, I have six books of drawings which tell the tale of the Atlantian Empire for six centuries of battles until they were finally defeated. That was fun. I've never done it again, but it was fun.

My last book of drawings was placed a thousand years prior to my other series and was telling the tales of numerous Battlestars named Galactica as they fought the Cylons in their great war. Yes, I linked my stories in STRONGLY with the old BattleStar Galactica TV series, NOT the new Richard Hatch books. Hey, they're cool, just a bit out there on the believability scale....

But beyond that, I love Transformers (Generation One all the way baby!) where my favorite character is Fortress Maximus from the comic. I also enjoy Babylon Five (for some reason this board sees 5 as 4 so I have to spell it out...huh?), Star Trek, DS9, Voyager (sometimes) and Enterprise. TNG was fun too, and sometimes I watch the episodes that come up on my Tivo. Cowboy Bebop and Big O are the anime I love the best, and I often watch the old Sherlock Holmes in the 22nd Century cartoon as well, a really good American made cartoon.

As far as books go, David Weber rules, along with Timothy Zahn and Michael Stackpole. I love the Star Wars novels, not the New Jedi Order crap coming out now with the uber-extra-galactic enemy that wipe their arses with Jedi Sabres because they tickle, and anything to do to with the Honor Harrington universe. Add in the dude who wrote Ender's Game (an AWESOME book if you haven't read it) and I think you can tell I like sci-fi. Oh...I also am a complete and utter Lord of the Rings fanboy. Gandalf Rules. Word. 8)

Beyond that....well.....um....I can't really think of anything else right now. Glad to speak and hope you don't think I'm too much of a nerd...;)

Hey MP,

Quite a bio you wrote. I noticed you listed Timothy Zahn. I've only read his Star War books. Did he write other SF (not fantasy).

I have to agree with you on the new Star wars series. I've kinda dropped off the new stuff (except for the new "old" stories. Dealing with Star wars 1 and 2. (or are they the 4th and 5th movies as they were made? )
There can be only ONE.

Good intro!

For anyone who hasn't visited Medron's website, I highly recommend it as a great source for BT-related downloadeable files. When I'm looking for a particular BT file, PRI is usually my first stop.

Ender's Game was written by Orson Scott Card. Very good book. I don't much care for the rest of the books in the series (Ender's Shadow, Shadow of the Hegemon, Speaker for the Dead, etc), but Ender's Game itself is a heck of a good read. I love the surprise ending!

If you're into military sci-fi, you should check out the Seafort Saga (by David Feintuch). There are 7 books in the series... the 4th book in the series (Fisherman's Hope) is a must read!

Hey, Medron. Good to see ya. Nice to have a fellow Norwegian on the site! Though you beat me on the percentage as I'm only 1/8th.

I've also only read Timothy Zahns Star Wars "Heir to the Empire" series. Loved them! Great follow ons to a great saga.

Zahn's best work, IMNSHO, is the Cobra series, I've read them each three times. Great books.

I'm 1/2 Sweedish. Does that count for anything? The other 1/2 of me is a good amalgamid of British/French/Cheorkee/Scottish/maybe Irish not sure/Dutch/Spanish.

Zahn has a LOT of really good fiction. I loved the Conquerer trilogy for instance, and he has a lot of other really good stuff. Mostly one offs or at most three book series and then he goes into another universe. Not like Weber's Honorverse thang.

In general, if you liked his two series in Star Wars....GET his other stuff. I have yet to read a Zahn book I didn't like.

As for the rest. The story was originally wrote and Lucas realized it was too big to do, so he chose the middle to do in a movie since I guess it was the best and most action-oriented part or something. Then he realized THAT was too big and did the "first third" of the "middle third" of the story and it was Star Wars. Then he did Empire and Jedi, filling out the middle third of the story.

Now he's doing the first third (badly) and is saying he never had a final third and will never do it.

At least Part Three is being directed by somebody else who might be able to get good acting out of the deal. I LOVE the lightsaber and other battle scenes in the new movies....they blow away the old ones as far as quality goes. But dang....can we PLEASE get some good acting in there too? I LIKED the old characters because they were smart(censored) and stuff. They were FUN to watch as they insulted each other back and forth.

Now we get this bantha fodder called acting.....

No the acting in the new star wars is fine. I really think it revolves around the fact that George Lucas is a changed man. He now has three kids, a multimedia empire and has not directed in something like twenty years. I think that the old movies had his whole attention. These ones are being split with many other things. Also they lack a lot of the wow factor, yes they do have far too many awesome looking scenes to name but, they do not really push the envelope. Digital is just being enhanced by his movies, not created. The first Star Wars movies created special effects. This one is just making them look better, and for many fans that is not really enough. I think also you have to realize that doing the middle three first was a mistake. Looking back I think George would want to do these three first so he could tie them together easier. Or at least differently. And really we all know where the story is going, and generally how it gets there. So much of the excitement of what comes next is gone. Well at least that is my take on it.

Well...he didn't DIRECT (from what I've read) the first movies either...and from what I've read he isn't directing episode III (WOOHOO! WOOHOO!).

And maybe I shouldn't say the ACTING is bad....they just don't act well TOGETHER.

There was some good chemistry in the last movie between Anakin and Obi Wan....but I just don't feel anything with Anakin and Padme...and trust me, if I was in his position *I* most certainly WOULD be! Ahem....beyond that....the chemistry in general is simply not there....*shrugs*

You know I think Padme needs to have a scene like her daughter did in Return of the Jedi. Come on everyone knows the scene that I mean. That would make my tail wiggle
