Boats, ships, sloops, junks, call them what you will, but there are times that shipping goods via the air or space isn't an option. On planets with a large amount of water a good ship is often your best bet for shipping, patrols, recreation and exploration. So, let's get those designs 'ship-shape' and start posting or there will be the Devil's Seam to caulk. Very Happy

==Overview==
Landing craft, as a species of wet navy vessels have been virtually extinct for nearly 800 years. Conventional aircraft, small craft and DropShips began to supplant them in the 21st century because they were far more flexible, during both initial beach and planetary assaults and river crossings operations, but as with all things during the succession wars era, small craft and DropShips forces atrophied to the point where ancient tactics had to be revived to continue the fight, at all costs.

The Saltwater Croc Heavy Landing Craft was designed during the later half of the Second Succession War to provide some sort of across water ferry service for war materiel that could not easily cross on its own. The SW Croc is not an assault landing craft, it was designed to operate in relatively secure areas ferrying follow-on forces across a water body after the landing assault force, which usually consist of bottom walking BattleMechs and hover tanks, have established a relatively secure beachhead. The SW Croc’s armament is strictly for self-defense against air assets.

==Capabilities==
Like almost all of its predecessors the SW Croc has a relatively flat bottom with an extremely shallow draft so that in can beach itself, drop its bow ramp and unload. The majority of the main deck is open to the elements with the narrow superstructure built along the starboard (right) side. This provides an unobstructed deck for cargo and vehicles. Forward of the bridge structure is a small turret for self-defense, a duplicate turret us mounted aft of the super structure as well. Each turret mounts an LRM-5 missile rack and a support-grade machine gun.

Along the port side of the craft is the for the ships 100-ton capacity crane. The crane can move along the rail the full length of the craft, can reach anywhere on the main deck and can swing over the side of the vessel to load or unload other vessels and even trucks if pier side.

The SW Croc has standard cargo capacity of some 552 tons but can easily be overloaded. The vessel has enough reserve buoyancy to carry an additional 1,000 tons of cargo if necessary.

==Variants==
Numerous variants abound, most military variants are one off conversions intended for anti-insurgent operations in areas dominated by water. These gunboat conversions can be found with just about anything mounted on them for weapons and additional armor. Almost as many SW Crocs are operated as unarmed civilian ferries supporting regions that can afford little else in the way of transport, as military operated vessels.

==Deployment==
The SW Croc was first deployed by the FWLM, to complement the Crocodile Landing Craft but it, or designs like it, have spread all across the Inner Sphere and Periphery. Most every planetary militia on a planet with a sizable body of water has a few for support work.
