Shelley Marie Mather
1979 - 2005
Lost to us all by the London bombings.

That step you took,
On that long ago day,
That first step that took you
To the plane.

We shed some tears,
As we bid you good bye,
I'll be back again soon,
You said, please don't cry.

That step you took,
It took you so far,
Now you've left this world,
But never our hearts.

To my friend Shelley and all those whose lives were shattered by the bombs in London, rest in peace.

Jimmy, you told me a bit about her. Would you care to share any more here?

I know that she was the only New Zealander to be killed in the bombings. You also said that she was 'on Oe.' What is that?

OE is a very kiwi abbreiviation (sp?) for Oversea Excursion. It's something that NZer's in their early to mid twenties are reknowned for. Most commonly we travel to the UK, do some adventuring, get a job, do some more adventuring and send emails and postcards home to all our friends and family. My briother is still on his OE 11 years on.

Shelley left for her OE three years ago. She spent a while touring Europe and worked as a Contiki tour guide for a while. She had settled in London for the long haul.

I knew Shelley from a long way back. We were good friends and drank and played indoor cricket together and I'm finding it hard to accept that she's gone. Of all the millions of people who catch those trains that one beautiful, intelligent, young woman was caught up in it.

Thanks for explaining the OE.

Again, my sympathies are extended and my wrath at anyone so close-minded to view her as the enemy.

I'm sorry

I just didn't know what to say when I first read that.

I still don't.

I just don't understand thinking like that.

It makes no sense to me.

I'm so sorry....

The mortal shell passes from the plane of man, but gains the wings of a angel for her soul and rides the solar winds back to God's ever loving embrace.

Thanks, everyone, for such kind thoughts and words. I'm not ashamed to say that I cried a great deal when I learned of Shelleys death. It's been a month now and while our greiving is done, we all still her. But we know she is in a better place.

I just pray that when my time is up I find the peace that she now has.
