I have started my own P.I. firm in an effort to clamp down on some of the crime that has recently infiltrated New Star. This is one of my cases...

VO: I stood in the doorway of my new office and looked around. It was small and there was only one small window that the sunlight from outside seeped in through. But it was mine. From these humble beginings I would build a P.I. empire that would rival anything created on Fox or CBS. This was my beginning.

Suddenly I heard someone approaching from behind me. I turned and saw...

*guy in black tux, sunglasses, and speaking in gravelly Harvard accent*

The BNS robbery was an inside job. Take it from me, I know where to look. The DEW buy-up, coincidence. Guy who bought up the shares didn't know that he was gonna be a red herring in a bank heist case. The guy who engineered this robbery was cunning and clever. He happened to know what guards where on duty that night. One of the guards is in on it. Grey and Kyu know the identity of the guard. He locked his buddy in the can, made sure he couldn't investigate. There's a bit of money launderin goin on, a few people know about it, Grey just happened to figure some of it out. If the stock goes down low enough, a couple of the execs are gonna buy up some of the stocks.

*The stranger ran off down the street before I could utter one word*

VO: Could this stranger be trusted? What was his link to all this? I knew that I'd have to investigate this further if I wanted the answers I sought. My next job would be to talk to the Execs at BNS!

The latest information discovered provides a few insights. Clarkes answers to my questions seem to exonerate Bell (to an extent), and Berger while drawing more attention to Angel and Welker. McConnohie also can't be crossed of the list of suspects yet, though his obvious illness, proof of his doctors appt and his willingness to submit to further testing do speak in his favour.

What does Longwalker know? I know how money talks so have offered him a bribe for his information. I only hope he takes it cos I can't afford much more...

Suspect notes:
Welker
His girlfriend went on record stating that he was home with her all night. What does this prove? Nothing apart from the fact that she may be an accomplice during or after the event.

Angel
The "dumpster tape" clearly incriminates Angel, which screams to me of "framing". However it can't be overlook that Angel was the only guard on duty as Bell was in the toilet. There are just too many unknown facts about Angel at this stage to clear him.

*guy shows up in a trenchcoat and sunshades. His voice is very low pitched*

Hey, you think that tape's a ruse? Fine. How bout a file? There's some heavy embezzeling done with a couple of the execs. I can't mention their names, it would blow my cover. Suffice to say, however, it ain't pretty. 100,000 credits for one box of staples. Doesn't that sound a bit high? Sounds a bit suspicious to me. Check the files, you'll find a few things that are priced a bit steep. At any rate, if you still doubt me, have that talk to Officer Angel. Ask him why he drives his LTD when his BMW will get him to work quicker. Ask him why he values his Porsche so much, and why he doesn't like people leaning on his Vette. I guarentee, none of the guards have the credits to purchase those types of wheels. Fact, Angel's been babysitting one of the exec's kids just to make ends meet. Guy got promoted recently as well, to supervisor. Seems none of the other guards got signing bonuses or gifts when they got promoted. You ask me, something's rotten, and it ain't the candy in the vending machines.

*Guys turns and walks away without another word*

I heard about your informant and his claims about embezzlment. Have you seen the government regulations on how execs have to buy things? We have to have hammers X-rayed for cracks for pities sake.

Maybe take a look at your informant and maybe you will find the culprit standing in front of you.

OOC: The thing about X-raying hamemrs is the truth. having worked for the government, I see ALOT of stuff like this.

You cant buy a hammer for a few dollars when it has to be x-rayed.

Walks into the office delivering a letter.

This message basically says that it would be beneficial to your health to leave this robbery to the supposed professionals.

Laughs

Don't look so afraid, I havent been hired to do anything but deliver the message.

Walks out and tails the shadowy informant.

Trust me Mr Longwalker. All avenues are being investigated. I will leave no stone unturned. Now, regarding my offer, would be willing to tell me what you know?

VO: Professionals my @$$! If Shaddrack thought he was gonna put me off pursuing this case by delivering a note he was sadly mistaken. I was on to something big and I knew it. I was on the verge of uncovering a huge internal money laundering operation from within the ranks of BNS's highest executives. I knew i was close...I just needed a little more info...

I decided to tail Shaddrack...

*Jimmy returns to his office aftter an exhausting trek through the seedier side of New Stars streets*

Sorry, Bud. Nothin' new to report yet. I lost Shaddrack some where down 42nd Street. It was just too damn busy to keep a good eye on him. Plus he's one slippery fish. He knew I was tailing him and did everything he could to lose me.

I guess I'll just have to wait til I can speak to Angel and some answers to those latest questions...and see those BNS files!

*guy shows up in a trenchcoat. Speaks with a sore throat and a Harvard lockjaw accent*

There's a couple guys you wanna look for. C. Howitt-Fields and Herbie Simplex. Herb's an exec in charge of accounting, Mr. Howitt-Fields is on the board. Both of them, as mentioned before, have been embezzeling. Anybody else know of this? You bet your sweet potootie. The three guys we replaced knew it; that's the real reason they got fired, although official reports said they where unreliable; apparently a concert recital, a week-long yearly vacation, and putting a bandaid on a paper cut constitutes "unreliable attendence" in the former two and "danger to self and others" for the later.
*throws a few back-page stories at Jimmy*
See those stories? Two girls and a guy involved in a few well-placed fatal accidents right around the time of the scandal. Lady found dead in a car accident due to faulty brakes. Another lady found dead with a bullet in her cranium and a suicide note. Guy dies in a house fire; some greasy rags in the basement, so they say. Media don't even report that. Few slight problems with those. Suicide note: handwriting didn't match the victims. Her i's resemble big O's. These resembled hearts, not to mention that in her handwriting the l's loop a little wider than the ones in the letter. The car: brakes where cut. Obvious, cops found that one, don't have a suspect. House fire: Guy is a neat freak, won't let a greasy rag touch the ground. Few days before each of their deaths, they where going to report what they knew about who they thought was behind the robberies. Howitt-Fields and Simplex hired PI's after firing those three to make sure they didn't report anything. Guess he had the PI sabotage a few things as well.

Anyways, about that cleaning crew. It's a front for their laundering scheme. Charlie[C. Howitt-Fields] set the business up as a mom and pop thing, under his wife's name, something of a tax break for himself. The supervisor of the night crew was aware of the robber; the night of the robbery, the guys where told to take a night off by their supervisor. He then called the bank and said they all called in sick. That way, when the logs where checked, there would be a reason nobody saw anything. The tapes where supposed to be stashed in the back seat of Angel's car. Anybody asks, he's picking up a few porno tapes from a friend(which would fit; few weeks ago I caught him lookin at a 16-pager. While on guard duty. And with one of the lady tellers in front of him, no doubt. I tell ya, guy's a thief and a perv). How that one tape from camera 15 wound up in the dumpster, anybody's guess, though probably somebody planted it there, or it fell. Both would fit; after all, if any light came about of the guard's involvement, Angel would simply admit that he was in on the whole thing, and say that all the security team was in on it. Fact, he would even go as far as to say that Bell requested before hand to be bungee-strapped in to make the story fit.

*"You'd better go out the back way, there's been some people....haging around." Jimmy escorts Informant to the rear entrance of the building*

*This was great stuff. Now I had some names to go after and some more clues. My next step would be to try to identify the author of that dodgy suicide note. I'd have to get handwriting samples from all the suspects, Howitt-Fields, Simplex, Angel and maybe even the ceaning crew people. Speaking of them, once I get the name of that company I'll ask the local police to begin a full investigation of their dealings, on and off-site.

I wonder who this PI was...they are obviously dirty and also need to be taken down. Man, did I have my work cut out for me!
*

Longwalker: My offer was 40 credits.

I know the offers not big but with the information my investigation has pulled up I may not even need your info. No offence, it's just that certain info has come to light that might just help clinch this deal on it's own, so 40C is all I'm willing to pay for superfluous info.

Interview between Jimmy and Angel:
(Jimmy's dialogue in italics...)
*The sound of gently lapping waves greeted Angel as he walked along the Pier towards Jimmy the Tulip...*

Alright, Angel. Let's get down to business.
Fact: Bell went to the toilet 8.10pm
Fact: Robbery occurs around 8.10pm
Fact: Bell finds toilet door locked 8.15pm
Fact: Alarm at bank goes off 8.30pm
The robbers were apparently in and out in 2 minutes or less. Why did it take 20 minutes to release Bell and sound the alarm?

First off, I didn't realize he was still in the toilet. I figured he would've gotten out to sound the alarm. I found the door strapped by a bungee cord after the robbers left. Standard procedure. You don't want to sound the alarm right away, otherwise the crooks might open fire.

Hmmm...no silent alarms, huh? Sure...I have it on good authority that in addition to the LTD you drive you also have a BMW, a Porsche and a Corvette. That's some pretty expensive hardware for a guy on a security guards paypacket. Can you explain them and explain why, with those faster cars, you would choose to drive your LTD to work?

Corvette was a promotion gift. The Porsche and BMW I won in a radio contest.

Well, that'll be easy enough for us to cross-check. I'm sure that everyone would remember a contest like that.

(Scowls) Why don't I drive them to work? You kiddin? Welker's the biggest prankster around. First chance he could find he'd go out there and key em. Besides, I have to keep the insurance on the Corvette down; if I drive it around too much, it goes way up.

I've spoken to Wleker and he doesn't seem that sort. Mind you tha too can be easily verified. I've also learnt that you babysit for one of the Bank Executives kids, you've recently been promoted and you received a signing bonus and/or gift upon your promotion. Curious that none of the other guards that have been promoted have been so fortunate. Can you explain that and tell me who's kid you are sitting for?

Yeah, the Vette was part of the signing bonus. That and 200,000 credits. Doin a good job watchin over the place, and they needed a night supervisor. I babysit Herb's kids on the weekend. Pay's ok, I make ends meet.

Yeah, you got character witnesses just trippin' over themselves to vouch for you, huh? Why would a guy like you be getting bonuses of nearly 200,000 credits? What, you lay golden eggs or something?

I wish. Like I said, I'm that good. Matter of fact, word has it that Clarke may soon get his walkin papers over the incident.

I bet that'd just make your day. You better have some damn good explanations, Angel, cos your story just doesn't ring true. Oh and by the way, me and the NSPD were very interested to learn that the "Cleaning Company" who called in sick on your shift is actually owned by one of your pals...Charlie, isn't it? Ain't that a little bit curious...

And from what I here the NSPD are having a great time with Charlie even as we speak. He's squealing so loud I'm surprised we can't hear it from here. You know, it seems that it mighta been him that dropped that tape in the dumpster, you know, to clean up any...loose ends. He'll probably be arranging for you to have a little "visit" from his friends Franklin and Weldon soon. I hear they don't mind getting their hands dirty to silence some whispers. So whatever you don't tell me will die with you, I guess...will their be many people at your funeral, Angel?

*gasp* OK, listen, those three guys that got bunked off, the four of us knew of the extortion ring. They told us, we keep our mouths shut, they'd cut us in on the deal. I said I'd think about it. Other three guards, well, they shook their heads. Last I heard, they got fired, and that was the end of it. I don't know nothin about the murders. All I know, me and one of Herb's buddies made the tape to sound like a burgulary. Guy was in radio. Had some fancy equipment. Anyways, I brought the boombox and the tape, all I had to do was find some way of gettin Bell out the way. He went off to use the toilet, I had a bungee cord stashed in my gym bag just in case I needed to tie him up or strap something down. I secured one end of the strap to the door, the other end to a pole located next to the door. The safe had a time lock on it. After everyone left, when I did a check on the place, I changed the lock so that it would open around 8 or so. Anyways, after Bell was trapped in the john, Charlie, myself, and Herb opened the safe, got the credits and valuables, stashed them about three ways between us, got into the camera room, stuffed the tapes into boxes, and walked out. Far as I knew, all the tapes where put into the back of my car. Anybody asks, they where rental tapes. Didn't realize that the lousy rats where gonna send me up the river.

Oh, couple more things, I was told if anything pointed to us, I was to make a statement saying that Clarke, Welker, McConnohie, and Berger where behind the robbery. Oh, and if I ratted out anybody, I could expect to take the rap for everything. Since you now know the whole story......*pulls out gun and loads it*...Can't let you get away with all that info, now can I?

Flashback to Jimmy's conversation with his NSPD buddy
JtT: ...Maybe I could help you guys a little. I'm meeting a suspect, Angels his name, outside Warehouse B on Pier 28 at the docks. With the info that I'm gonna let slip I think I'll need some back up.

Pauses

JtT: That's great, Mac. Thanks. I'll make sure you get the collar for this one! I'm meeting Angel at 9pm, be early.

Back to conversation with Angel
Can't let you get away with all that info, now can I?

*A red pin-point light appears on Angels leg just before a gun shot rings out. Angel falls to the ground clutching his right leg and Jimmy pounces, kicking the gun clear of his outstretched hand*

I was gonna offer you a deal to testify, Angel. Now I guess you'll be sharing a cell in Sing-Sing for just as long as your buddies.

*Mac walks up to Jimmy, a Police sharpshooter beside him.*

Mac: I owe you for this, Jimmy. We'll take it from here. You got the tape?

*Jimmy reaches into his jacket and removes a small tape recorder, switching it off and removing the tape*

Here ya go, Mac. I'd say we're even. Thanks for the cover.

*Jimmy turns and walks away. The NSPD would be picking up Charlie and Herb along with the Cleaning Company crew. It looked like this case would soon be closed. Yet Jimmy felt dissatisfied. He had not dug up any hard evidence on the PI's, nothing that would stand up in court, anyways, and couldn't help thinking that he would run in to them again in the future...*

A question for Dan:

With the closure of the BNS case and the subsequent convictions of the parties involved I was wondering to whom I should address the Invoice for my services? As BNS is run by the New Star administration and you are the Administrator are you responsible for settling the account? Wink

Cheers,
Jimmy.

Second step: Pay him some credits.
Third step: Pay him some more.
Fourth step: What, you're still trying this?

Jimmy: I would submit the invoice to the execs of BNS, and/or the people responsible for the security of the exchange. The police might also have at least a small reward for you.

Dan: (the following is said in a deliberately even voice) Pay the man. His stories are helping keep your board going. If he doesn't have something to show for his efforts, there's no point to his bothering with it.

And I was nearly shot! Very Happy That would've been a short lived business. First case and I get blown away! Laughing

Jimmy Junior would've had to take over the company.

True! How much would be ample compensation for that?! Far more than my meagre invoice amount, I'm sure... Wink

Working through all the details, it took about 3 NS days to compile all the evidence (they were pretty amateurish). I figured that since it was my first case and a big, government one at that I'd do a half-price deal. My usual fee is 250NSSC per day plus expenses. that'd mean 125x3=375NSSC. I incurred no expenses during the case. Does 375NSSC seem a fair price to crack a 200,000+ embezzlement racket? Very Happy

Jimmy: If all else fails, you can hire the Greedy Lawyer to go after the guy who is stiffing you... Wink

Dan: You'd better pay him before he takes my advice. You have to admit, he's earned it.

How I become the bad guy in all this! Confused

Check with the majority shareholders...they own the company! I 'manage' the exchange!

Dan: Because you are the sort of "game master" for all this. And incidentally, you DO manage this board. In other words, it's in your power to make SOMEBODY give Jimmy his justly deserved payment. At the very least, he should be collecting some sort of compensation from the police for taking his time in helping with the sting.

KNN will pay Jimmy the Tulip all service fees for this case, as the firm was under payment by KNN at the time for research purposes.

The resulting case was a direct offshoot of this research.

As such, KNN will pick up the tab, as the NSSX never contracted JT Investigations Ltd nor did any other New Star entity.

KNN offers 220C for services rendered.

Jimmy: I'd take that payment, it may be the only one you get.

Kyu: Thanks, SOMEONE needs to reward Jimmy's effort. I imagine KNN got some good commercial spots out of the news for this...

More that JTI Ltd bought a bunch of ads in primetime.

You know the sort, the cheesy black and white old style PI ads... Razz

Kyu: I gratefully accept the offer you have made and thank you for supporting my fledgling company.

Dan: Laughing Boy, did I open a can o' worms or what! I never meant to paint you as the bad guy and wish to assure you that all the proceeds from the BNS case will, eventually, be reinvested in your fine boards anyway. Very Happy

All: Thank you all so much for your support. It's a great feeling to know the community's behind me! Very Happy

You DO realize that if you sold off your shares in DEW, you'd be able to buy enough KNN shares to control the company right?

Kyu, I can't take your credits. If you're going to invest in anything you should invest in KNN. 220NSSC will at least buy you some shares and, if you want to keep your DEW shares just buy up your KNN shares as you build up the credits. The offer you made was very generous, but you should be concentrating on your plans to own KNN right now.

Yours with undying gratitude,
Jimmy the Tulip.

PS: If you should not read this before you t/f the credits I will donate them straight back to you. Very Happy

You can and will! Smile

I made the offer, and I intend to follow through!

Just give me two tickers at most, and you'll have it.

What preferred loan rates? Do I smell a story here? KNN and CSSL guilty of inside deals?
Sounds like a job for JTI.. Rolling Eyes
