Able to traverse some of the roughest terrains, tracked vehicles have served mankind for centuries, in combat, construction, exploration and other roles. When you absolutely need to get that cargo over there, and delivery by air isn't an option, the humble tracked vee is there. _________________ House Davion, saving the Inner Sphere one planet at a time! |

Manufacturer: Aldis Industries
Location: Terra
Communications System: Omicron 1500
Targeting & Tracking System: None
-------------------------------------------------------- |
==Overview:==
Support vehicles of any type rarely receive any form of recognition; recovery
and maintenance vehicles generally get less than that. But this lack of
recognition does not mean they are unnecessary or incapable. The M88A5
Hercules Recovery & Maintenance Vehicle is on of the better heavy recovery
vehicles available today. The design, like many other support vehicle
designs, goes all the way back the SLDF of the first Star League.
==Capabilities:==
The M88A5’s overriding reason for existing is to pull damaged and disabled
vehicles and battlemechs out from where ever they have found themselves. And
for battlemechs especially this can be just about anywhere. So the M88A5 was
built for mobility but not speed. For this reason it is a tracked design and
comes with a powerful 280 series turboelectric drive system. There is little
that the Hercules cannot crawl through, over, or around.
To assist in recovery operations the Hercules also has an A-Frame crane that
folds over the vehicle for easy transport. This crane has a rated capacity of
70 tons: equal to the mass of the vehicle itself. It can literally lift or
drag most any vehicle or battlemech from just about any place and if one M88A5
cannot do the job two certainly can. In fact the Hercules comes standard with
a special communications & computer control system that allow two operators to
work together almost as if they are one.
At the bow of the vehicle is the dozer blade that is used to stabilize the
vehicle during some lift operations. It can also be used to move earth and
obstacles like any other bulldozer. At the aft end of the vehicle is a
massive towing hitch that allows the vehicle to tow or drag another vehicle of
up to 70 tons.
The spacious crew compartment is at the forward end of the vehicle. Although
the Hercules is a heavy vehicle it normally only carries a crew of three. The
only weapon the recovery normally carries is a support machine gun in a pintle
mount above the Vehicle Commander’s hatch. The engine compartment is aft. The
vehicle has a deck over the engine compartment that can be used to store parts
and materiel. And around the engine compartment is a collection of lockers
for tool storage.
==Deployment==
The M88A5 is widely deployed throughout the Inner Sphere; it is especially
popular with mercenaries as it is easily obtainable from its sole manufacturer
Aldis Industries of Terra.

I would personally think that having a crane that could lift 100 tons would be better. After all, one of these couldn't even service a Lyran scout lance! _________________ Medron Pryde - A Proud Browncoat

Here's one entry from me. A L3 version of an AEV that I whipped up before the Support Rules came out. (The paramedic equip was added in recently.)
Code: | BattleTech Vehicle Technical Readout
* CUSTOM WEAPON
Type/Model: Charity Amored Evacuation Vehicle CAEV-3
Tech: Inner Sphere / 3069
Config: Tracked Vehicle
Rules: Level 3, Standard design
Mass: 30 tons
Power Plant: 180 Type 180 SC Fusion Supercharger
Cruise Speed: 64.8 km/h
Maximum Speed: 97.2 [129.6] km/h
Armor Type: Magistrate Lt.Plate Standard
Armament:
2 20mm Gatling Gun Machine Guns
4 1st Response Paramedic Equipments*
Manufacturer: Hardcore MedTech
Location: Hardcore, MoC
Communications System: Athena Multiband Model V
Targeting & Tracking System: Ares Mark XXI
|
------------------------------------------------------------------------------
==Overview:==
When the Caduceus Field Medic Armor was in development, Hardcore MedTech came
to the realization that standard APCs would be inadequate to support them in
the field. Relying on decades of experience in the field of medical vehicles,
they decided to look into a dedicated vehicle to not only support the new
Battle Armor, but to evacuate the most seriously injured to a rear area MASH
unit.
==Capabilities:==
Knowing that the vehicle would be required to travel over rough terrain and
operate away from secure supply lines, the newly named Charity was designed
with an amphibious tracked chassis and a fusion power plant. The crew of two
simply consist of a driver and a gunner/communications person. They recieve
training not only as armor crew, but EMT training as well, to facilitate the
vehicles role in supporting the wounded in the field.
The supercharged Type 180 SC fusion power plant is capable of speeds
approaching 130 km/h. It is not designed to use the supercharger for long
distances, but to give the crew an additonal burst of speed to retreat in case
the vehicle is overrun by enemy forces.
The four tons of Magsitrate Lt Plate standard armor is not designed to protect
the vehicle from heavy weapons fire, but from small arms fire as well as
environmental hazards. Likewise, the two 20mm Gatling Guns are only intended
to deter any enemy infantry as well as anyone looking to steal the cargo of
medical supplies.
The modular passenger bay contains enough room for up to four wounded on
stretchers, as well as several medics. The cargo bay contains 1000kg of
various medical supplies although 400kg is dedicated to gear carried by the
Caduceus squad the Charity supports.
==Variants:==
The only proposed variant is the CAEV-4, which removes the Passenger bay as
well as half of the medical supplies in exchange for a one bed MASH bay.

Very nice. Though I would take the "proposed" out of the variants section and just say it IS a variant. _________________ Medron Pryde - A Proud Browncoat

Yeah, and Karagin is posting just fine. This is frustrating. Here I am trying to teach my wife about the scientific process and my own forums don't give me repeatable events!

BattleTech Vehicle Technical Readout
VALIDATED
Type/Model: Hercules Engineering Vehicle M230
Tech: Inner Sphere / 3060
Config: Tracked Vehicle
Rules: Level 2, Custom design
Mass: 45 tons
Power Plant: 270 GM Fusion
Cruise Speed: 64.8 km/h
Maximum Speed: 97.2 km/h
Armor Type: Standard
Armament:
1 Zippo Flamer
Manufacturer: Caterpillar Heavy Industries
Location: Terra(Main), Various
Communications System: Motorola T9
Targeting & Tracking System: TT4 series
------------------------------------------------------------------------------
==Overview:==
Produced during the days of the Hegemony and later the Star League for the
Corps of Engineers, the M230 Hercules Engineering Vehicle was originally
created to serve as a dedicated armored personnel carrier for engineers in the
field. The design eventually evolved into a multi-role vehicle, serving as an
APC with recovery and repair among other engineering duties possible. Though
the Succession Wars took a horrible toll on the Hercules, with the recent
technological renaissance in the Inner Sphere Caterpillar Heavy Industries has
restarted production.
==Capabilities:==
Despite the mass of only 45 tons, the Hercules is one of the larger vehicles,
comparing in size to massive tanks such as the Demolisher or Behemoth. The
Hercules uses a tracked chassis, with four, independent wide treads. This not
only allows the Hercules to cross nearly all types of terrain, but it allows
for a wider distribution of loads, reducing ground pressure. The forward
section houses the crew and passenger cabin, which can seat fifteen people.
The cabin can also store extra equipment. Instead of hard, uncomfortable
benches, the Hercules has partially reclinable cushioned seats, allowing for a
hardworked engineering squad to take a quick rest. Behind the crew/passenger
cabin is the exoskeleton locker. This locker is features four stalls for
exoskeletons, such as CHI's own C5000 model. Indeed, each Hercules comes with
two C5000 Exoskeletons. When locked into the stalls, the exoskeletons'
batteries can be recharged off the fusion engine, giving a near limitless
source of power. The rear of the Hercules is taken up by a massive flatbed,
with optional built in enclosures. The Hercules features two winches, one at
the front and the other at the front of the flatbed. Each winch is capable of
pulling a fifty-ton load. The Hercules also makes use of a boom lift hoist,
capable of lifting twenty tons. The flatbed can tilt sixty five degrees,
allowing the winch pull loads onto it easier. The 270 rated Fusion Engine was
selected for a variety of reasons. Formost, it allows the Hercules to pull 50
ton loads at approximately thirty-three kph. The engine can also recharge the
onboard exoskeletons, as well as any nearby vehicles, used to power the
systems on 'Mechs. When stationary, the Hercules' engine can act as a camp
power source. Mounted ontop of the crew cabin is a flamethrower, used to
clear fields. Mounted at each corner are deployable outriggers, allowing the
Hercules to anchor and become a stable platform for lifting and pulling.
Mounted at the front are a pair of electrically operated smoke dischargers, as
well as bank of eight highpowered floodlights. The rear of the cabin also has
four adjustable floodlights. For protection, the Hercules carries three and a
half tons of standing plating, over better than 50% protection. The armor is
also the point most attacked by critics, citing that the Hercules has trouble
standing up to fire while engaging in front line operations, a typical duty
for the M230.
==Variants:==
The Royal Star League Corps of Engineers had their M230's fitted with the more
advanced ferro-fibrous compound armor. CHI also makes a version of the M230,
which uses a 8x8 wheeled chassis. New M230 Hercules have their Exoskeleton
stalls reworked allowing them to hold powered armor such as the newer Sapper
and Pioneer designs. Modifications include allowing the operator to fit into
the suit without the need for a full team. The front winch can be replaced
with a dozer blade, allowing the Hercules to build earthwerks.
==Deployment==
The M230 Hercules Engineering Vehicle saw extensive service with both the
Hegemony Engineering Corps and the Royal Star League Royal Corps of Engineers.
The Succession Wars took a horrible toll on both men and material, with the
Hercules suffering the same fate as many of its fusion brethen. Engines were
ripped out to power the more important 'mechs. Those Hercules which weren't
completely cannibalized made use of less efficent turbine or diesel engines,
reducing pull power or armor protection.
