Some of you know that I have been doing an alternate history called the Human Sphere. It takes the Jihad and some other areas of history, and takes them very differently, resulting in many small nations fighting each other rather than a smaller number of large nations. In 3100, the era in which I'm writing, low level raids are common, while full scale warefare is rare.

Here is the link to the website that has the information.

http://www.pryderockindustries.com/humansphere

A summary of the major differences from the canon BattleTech:

The Ridzik brothers took over Hall as noted in the Chaos March Sourcebook and used that base to build up the Tikonov Free Republic their father once ruled. By the time the Jihad started, they held a half dozen or so worlds in the Chaos March and were on friendly terms with the Dragoons. They officially allied with the Allied Mercenary Command during the Jihad, and nearby worlds like the Sirian Concordance joined them. During the conflicts that followed they have continued to expand in power at the expense of the Draconis Combine and the Syrtis Federation.

The Taurian Concordat and the Magistracy of Canopus, both nations that enshrine human rights and hate slavers with a passion, told the nasty slaving Capellans what they could do with themselves. They never allied. The Fronc Federation was allowed to seceed from both realms in return for signing on as a member of the Treaty of Taurus. They survived the Jihad, also known as the Third War of Terran Aggression, by the skin of their collective teeth, and the Taurians expanded their territory during the St. Ives War at the expense of both the Capellan Confederation and the Syrtis Federation. The alliance now mainly looks outward, colonizing new worlds as far away from Terra as possible.

The Jihad itself started off less powerful than planned. The Star League did not disband, but enough proof of Blakist intentions made it to the Council that the Word was censored and named persona non gratis in the Inner Sphere. They responded by detonating a nuke on Tharkad. They also assaulted Luthien, New Avalon, and Atreus. Not all of their initial attacks went well. Therefore, they began a "diplomatic tour" with some of their WarShips, sending them to smaller worlds further away from central authority and giving them a choice. Being bombarded from orbit, or seceeding from whatever state they were a member of.

Andurien, Skye, Syrtis, Robinson, and many other rebellious polities seceeded from their parent states, leaving them to hang in the wind. With the forces against them sufficiently reduced, the Word of Blake put up a very good showing before finally being defeated by the remnants of the Star League on Terra in 3078. Few states that seceeded have allowed their parent state to rule them since.

Two major wars have followed. The St. Ives War, and the Trinity War that waged beside it, involved nations the nations of Tikonov, Syrtis, the Capellan Rump States, the Trinity Alliance, and even the Raven Alliance in the end. It resulted in the conquest of Tikonov by the Tikonov Free Republic, and the liberation of all former Taurian worlds conquered during the First War of Terran Aggression. The Second Combine-Dominion War was as devastating as the St. Ives War, shattering the Combine, the only Great House to survive the Jihad relatively intact. The Azami Caliphate and Nova Cat Confederation have maintained their independence since.

In 3100, the small nations that survive raid each other in a series of small conflicts. Conquest is rarely the primary goal anymore, as the forces required to perform such military campaigns cannot be formed without living other flanks weak. And all nations are bordered by other nations that will happily take advantage of such weaknesses. Small scale actions are the rule.

Civil Unrest Rocks Taurian Concordat!

6 January, 3100

A peaceful assembly of civilians on the capital of Panpour in the Taurian Concordat Occupation Zone, organized by the Freedom From Oppression Coalition, became a war zone today. The demonstrators, wanting only to peacefully protest the annexation of their realm by the Taurians, found themselves fired upon without warning by Taurian Constables. Local hospitals confirm at least one hundred deaths, with the toll expected to rise as the victims are identified.

Multiple witnesses describe the scene as a war zone, with the Constables firing into the gathered crowd with everything from pistols to assault rifles. Even the explosions of grenades have been reported, and the INN holo crew that penetrated the Constable Cordon was able to confirm the presence of blast craters consistent with the most common classes of grenades used by the Constables. Before the Constables ordered them away at gunpoint.

The Constables have since declared martial law, warning that any who leave their homes after nightfall will be shot on sight. INN has also been blacklisted from the HPG transmission station as well, forcing us to fall back on alternate transmission methods to get the news of this assault out. We’ve also been forced into hiding. The local populace has been very hospitable towards us and continues to shelter us from Constable search parties. We will update you as soon as we have further information.

I've included a summary of the universe in my first post, for those who have never read any of it. As there is a fair bit of information on the website, I wished to give you a basic primer on the universe. If you are interested by what you read here, you may find that you like the extra information found on the website. Smile

Citizens Declare War on Taurian Concordat!

9 January, 3100

Sighting the unwarranted murder of peaceful protestors three days earlier, the Panpour Liberation Army has declared war on the Taurian Concordat and launched their first full assault today. It began shortly after 0800 as the sun began to come over the horizon at Panpour’s capital. The freedom fighters fired from out of the sun, catching the Constables off guard and taking over one of their offices. They then used it as a base of operations to support drives further into towards the capitol building.

Many feared that the system defense forces would become involved and crush the freedom fighters, but reports suggest that even they have their limits. They have told Governor Horace that they will not help him subjugate the people any longer and in fact side with the Panpour Liberation Army. This has allowed the PLA to continue their march towards driving Taurian power out of the system.

Eight hours later, the fighting still rages as the Constables have proven unable to drive the freedom fighters out of their positions near the capitol building. Unfortunately the PLA has been unable to defeat the Constables and are currently calling on all freedom-loving citizens to aid them.

Second Regulan Hussars Invade Bismarck!

10 January, 3100

One day ago, claiming Bismarck to be an ancestral possession, the Principality of Regulus invaded Rim Commonality space. The Regulan fleet, composed of nearly a dozen Shiva-class frigates and supported by Parvathi assault ships, easily dispatched the defensive forces arrayed by the Rim. With aerospace superiority established, the Second Regulan Hussars deployed around Bismarck’s capital and have demanded it to surrender to its rightful rulers.

At this time, Bismarck’s defensive forces have sortied numerous times to drive the Second Hussars away, but have been defeated at every turn. Experts doubt the world will be able to hold out for more than a few days without outside support from the main Rim Commonality armed forces.

Initial reactions from other League governments are muted, with many saying off the record that it is better the Rim than them. Only Kristen Marik of the Marik-Stewart Commonwealth has been available to publicly stand against the invasion. Colonel D’Arcy has welcomed the Marik’s kind words. She also welcomes the Commonwealth to act on Kristen Marik’s words, but at this time no measurable military response has been detected.

This is the greatest test of the Regulan power since they absorbed the Regulan Free States in 3093, an invasion that was easily completed. The occupation has proven to be much more difficult though, having held the Second Hussar’s attention from them till now. The Rim Commonality certainly has greater capabilities than those three systems, but most analysts believe that they will be heavily outmatched should the Regulans devote more resources to the assault.

Rim Collection Defeated Over Bismarck!

16 January, 3100

Reports are still coming in from yesterday's battle between the main Rim Commonality fleet and the naval forces of Regulus, but one fact is clear. Regulus controls the orbital approaches to Bismarck today, just as it has since their forces arrived six days ago.

According to reports, the Tematagi, an Eagle II-class frigate purchased from the Free Worlds League factories at Atreus six years ago, led a major Rim assault fleet made up of over twenty DropShips to break the Regulan blockade. Only eight Regulan ships moved to intercept the assault, making the swift outcome of the battle a shock to the Rim and our own correspondents.

The small Regulan fleet allowed the Rim force to envelope them, though nearly one hundred Regulan fighters did move to intercept the Rim fighters. The main Regulan fleet declined to open fire with their primary weapons until ranges dropped to nearly that where their secondary weapons were effective though. Most of those watching doubted the Regulans could hold against a fleet that size, but it seems their delay in opening fire had a reason.

They were looking for shock value. Their accurate fire at such short ranges generated all of it that they wanted. Their first salvo destroyed or crippled five Rim DropShips, causing the survivors to panic and scatter at the firepower the Regulans displayed. It is the first time we have been able to record the Shiva-class frigates or the new Parvathis in combat. They did their job well, hunting down and destroying the majority of the Rim fleet as it tried to retreat. We currently know of five Rim DropShips that have so far been able to evade their pursuers though we doubt that all of them will be able to rendezvous with their JumpShips and escape. The critically damaged Tematagi has been driven from the system already and is not expected to return.

The Regulans have announced the capture of eight Rim DropShips and thirty-four fighter pilots, along with twenty-one of their craft. They state that the prisoners will remain in their custody until the Rim accepts the return of its masters.

On Bismarck itself, Rim resistance is collapsing. With their relief fleet scattered or captured, the defenders have lost heart and many are simply dropping their weapons, taking off their uniforms, and becoming just another civilian. The Regulans forecast that they will have the remaining "rebels" subdued in a matter of days.
