There are a few areas concerning this project that I would like to get some feedback on. (My thoughts in parenthesis.)

1. What all to include? Do we stop with just vehicles, or do we include support Battle Armor, Aerospace units and/or Mechs?
2. How many from each category should we include? Or should we play this one by ear?
3. Do we include custom tech, or just what's printed in a Fanpro rulebook? (I'm all for limiting it to Fanpro limited stuff. But that's just me.)
4. How should we organize the TRO? (I like the idea of mimicing the proposed layout of the TRO:Vehicle Annex.)
5. Conerning the format, should we use the layout from the Land Train example from TRO:VA? Or modify it for our use?
6. Despite the working name, do we limit ourselves with designs from Heavy Metal, or solicit ideas from all the major CBT forums? (I'd like this to reach throughout the community myself. The more the merrier. And the thinner the blame gets spread. Very Happy )
7. What are should the criteria be for a design to be considered for inclusion? (Fluff and originality of the design are two big ones for me.)
8. What rulesets are we considering? Just the support vehicle rules from Combat Equipment? L3 vees made with gear from Maxtech and the Miniature Book? Aerotech2?

I'm just helping out and these are only my opinions. We should have input from each member of the council, and others that are interested in the project. In fact (opinion #1), the council should not be providing a majority of the designs. Rather, they should be entries into contests decided upon by the counci (maybe by vote).

Depends on the name. Are we doing TRO: HM? If so, I say it should include each of the programs (and those that don't have programs yet).

Let's decide on the categories first.

I'm partial to FASA/FanPro canon stuff (but of all levels).

I agree. Though TRO:VA is about the SUV construction rules, if we decide to base is on the civilian side of the house (i.e., not necessarily HM-centric classes), we might want to come up with some of our own areas, as well.

-undecided-

Definitely concur. We should advertise each individual contest on both sites, and even troll through the archives of both to request the posters enter past designs.

Writing ability is important. I am not at all interested in providing the fluff for 30+ designs (tho I'd be happy to edit). I think all entries should be allowed (per category), but a 1st, 2nd & 3rd place be 'awarded' and 1 to all 3 included in the final product.

It really depends on what categories we decide upon, but I'm open to all current construction rulesets.

1) I'd be up for any of those.
2) Depends on how many categories. I could see 3 easily, maybe as many as 5, but 6 or more may start getting repetitive
3) I would say anything ever printed by official publications (yes...I realize that will get Perkins' attention) hehehe. I would be interested in custom stuff, but would suggest taking that, at most, on a case by case basis.
4) Yeah...I got nothin.
5) Ditto. Ain't seen it so don't know it.
6) I say anyone can enter, but I'd like to see ALL entries on at LEAST heavymetal.
7) Fluff and originality for me as well. The design is blah often. The fluff is what gives it life and makes reading the book interesting.
8) I would say any printed official ruleset.

I pretty much agree with Dan.

Specifics Coments:
3. I want to stick to canon tech but some canon tech items can be fluffed different ways, example the SV dumper equipment (5% of cargo mass) can easily be used for a Palletized Loading System IMO. I think we may need to play this one by ear but I don't want to get too far away from the canon stuff.

5. Format? No idea.

6. Definiately bring in others from the other boards.

7. Fluff, at least some, should be included for all designs, even if it is a short paragraph. Some might not agree but I think the fluff should also come from the designer. And I like the idea of ranking the first 2 or 3 for originality and fluff etc.

8. Rules Sets - I think we should focus on the support type designs, not necessarily just those using SV designs, but I've seen so many level 3 'mechs and vehicles that my eyes glaze over. If it's a combat vee etc. it should be very well fluffed IMO.

Concerning #5: I'm working on a nice double columned landscape layout for the PDF. It should lend itself quite well to both viewing and printing. (I'm on a 15" monitor and it looks fine so far. Printing doesn't look too bad either.)

I learn more from doing these projects than I ever did when I was doing this stuff as part of my job a bit back. Very Happy
